Dale Devereux Barker writes: 'I am an eclectic artist working in a variety of contexts from studio based activities such as painting, printmaking and enamelling for a traditional gallery audience through to a much broader practice that seeks to engage with a wider audience and make statements that exist in and for the Public Realm.

My work tries to describe what it feels like to be alive, although themes of water pervade my work; I have been a serious swimmer for forty years. My philosophy and approach is characterised by two facets; communication and visual celebration. My career's activities have led me to a place where collaboration, knowledge and sensitivity have arrived at a point where I am completely at one with my methods and materials.

Dale Devereux Barker makes art out of all sorts of things. Out of pictures, out of words, out of humour, out of frustration, out of sex, out of sitting on the beach. He has developed a pictorial language which is distinctive in its combination of figurative imagery and complex layering of more abstract planes and textures scavenged from outside sources.'
