Sandra Orme

My home is in the heart of the Peak District with views from my studio of the surrounding rugged moors of the Dark Peak to a distant Kinder Scout. A keen walker, I am inspired by seasonal colours, ever-changing light, weather and the atmosphere of not only this landscape but also the striking coastlines of places like the west coast of Scotland. I am fascinated by the enduring aspects of these dramatic places and focus on this rather than the temporary impact of man-made structures.
All my pieces are site specific - I sketch and take photographs, and then in my studio I aim to recreate the feeling of being there- trying to evoke a real sense of time and place. I work in layers of pastel- enjoying the variations of colour and texture and find the hands-on nature of its application lets me make a direct connection with each work.
