Nick Andrew writes: 'I am drawn to quiet, intimate, secluded places in the landscape within walking distance of my home and studio in South Wiltshire, observing changes from day to day and season to season: painting, drawing, taking photos and making notes. In particular, I’m fascinated by a three- mile stretch of the River Wylye along with adjacent water meadows and nearby woodland, I find it constantly compelling and am attracted by the abstract qualities: patterns in the river flow, multi- layering and reflectivity; also the textures, contrasts and depths in the forest and the movement, rhythms and colours of field grasses and plant life.
The research gathered on site feeds into my work in the studio, where I work with acrylic and oils using bold, vigorous brush- strokes and vibrant colours, aiming to capture that movement, vitality and freshness of colour. I would like to think that I convey through my paintings a sense of quietness and ‘solitary involvement’ with this landscape.'
