Tom Tomos writes: 'I live in a world of sea, sky, rivers and mountains – Ceredigion on the coast of west Wales - and it’s these elements that appear in my work. I want my paintings to capture the movement of the moist, windy, salty air. I try to abstract elements of the landscape and sky but lately there has been a tendency for more figurative forms to creep back into my work. I carry images and colours around in my head, sometimes for years, before they suddenly erupt onto canvas. I paint mainly in acrylics because I like the rapidity with which they dry, but some of my work is with mixed media.
I’m as likely to be pouring paint onto a canvas flat on the floor as working with a conventional brush. I have recently started to experiment with digitally manipulated images of my smaller works to produce limited edition prints. My style is my own, but I am greatly influenced by the work of other British painters; Bomberg, Lanyon, Heron and Jarman.'
